Ytsejam.com: Interview with Andy Kuntz

Beyond Daylight Released in 2002 takes the band on a new musical journey but does stray to far of the path that has made them so successful. The production on this album rivals anything ever released by any band. The sounds a crisp and clear and the mix is near perfect. This album has a melodic prog rock feel and the guys do a great job showcasing there talents once again There is even a cover over Kansas' Point of Know Return.. Rating: 9 Fav Songs: Beyond Daylight, Scarlet Flower fields,  Free The Fire

How do you top an amazing album like Far Off Grace.... Simple, Release an amazing live album! Spirit Of Live Released in 2000 showcases Vanden Plas amazing 10 year career as well as showing there amazing talents live on stage. This album delivers all the VP favorites including tune new kick ass tunes.. Every member shines with perfection, there are no flaws IMHO to be found on this record. What got me the most is how tight they sound live, and how Andy Kuntz vocal ranging is just as stunning if not superior live then in the studio, this album is a must have for any VP fan, if your not sure what to think, wonder over to the sounds section and download MP3 or Real Audio clips of this album and all the others!
Rating: 9.5 Fav Songs: You Fly, Far Off Grace, Rainmaker

Where are The God Thing was possibly the best album of 97, Far Off Grace is The best album of 99, only rivaled by Dream Theater's, Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory. The First song I heard off this album was Into The Sun, and let me tell you this track kicks ass! Matter of fact every track kicks ass, and once again VP breaks the rules merging traditional Prog Metal with a more metal sounding sound that kicks ass. Every Track is absolutely phenomenal and brings you to a new level of musical enlightenment. Even the Dokken Cover song, Kiss Of Death, is awesome, these guys can do no wrong!
Rating: 10 Fav Songs: Into The Sun. Iodic Rain, I'm In You

The God Thing Released in 97, was possibly the best album released in 97. This album shows hints from the previous releases but breaks new progressive ground. Unlike Colour Temple, where Stephan and Andy are the definite stand outs, with this release we realize the amazing talents of Torsten, Gunter and Andreas. The amazing musicianship of all the members shines through with utter brilliance and proves without a doubt that Vanden Plas are here to stay. Rating: 9.6 Fav Songs: Fire Blossom, You Fly, Day I Die

Accult Released in 96 Is quite a departure from there first release, and quite a daring and bold second step. In the fact this album is acoustic. It takes balls to make your second release (the release in the music business that seems to make and break many bands) a acoustic effort, and Vanden Plas' ball are quite large. This album rocks, they are able to take brilliant songs such as Father, My Crying and How Many Tears, and turn them into amazing acoustic versions. As well as masterfully cover other killer songs, such as Marillions-Kayleigh, and Saigon Kicks-Spanish Rain. This album although a obvious departure from there previous release is top notch all the way. Rating:9.0 Fav Songs: Father, Kayleigh, Spanish Rain

Colour Temple Released in 95, is our first stunning look into the minds of Vanden Plas. This album has a feel, that is a cross between 80's metal and progressive metal, but yet breaks all boundaries. There style of music is capable of winning you over with one note, its powerful yet subtle, as evidence in a masterful guitar work of Stefan Lill, His presence behind the guitar as well as the stunning vocals of Andy Kuntz are what drive this album. this is not saying the rest of the band isn't a factor, but we truly don't get to sample there full potential until "The God Thing" is released two year later. This album is an amazing first album for a band that definatly has a long career ahead of them. Rating: 8.5 Fav Songs: Push, Father, When The Wind Blows
